15.6-Inch Widescreen Display with True 16:9 Aspect Ratio

The 15.6-inch LED-backlit display (1366 x 768 pixels) presents true 16:9 aspect ratio with high-def resolution and fast 8ms (millisecond) response time for high-quality media playback as well as increased readability in low-light conditions. And the LED backlight technology is 33 percent more energy efficient than standard CCFL LCD screens.

Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, which uses shared video memory (providing up to 1700 MB of video memory as allocated by the system memory). This graphics card is built with Intel Clear Video technology, which delivers clearer, more detailed images by eliminating many of the jagged edges and video artifacts seen when viewing interlaced content and features powerful color control to ensure videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out.

Energy Efficient Intel Core 2 Solo Processor

Offering the latest in ultra-low voltage processing power, the single-core Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor has a has a power consumption rating of just 5.5 watts and a 1.4 GHz speed that’s paired with a fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and extra-large 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

Designed for use in ultra-thin laptops to balance the competing needs of high performance with battery consumption, the Core 2 Solo processor delivers enhanced performance for today’s demanding applications such as CAD tools, 3D and 2D modeling, video editing, digital music, digital photography and gaming. And Intel’s Smart Cache technology enables smarter, more efficient cache and bus design for enhanced performance, responsiveness and power savings.

The Multi-Gestured Acer Timeline

A Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad enables you to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more.

The TouchPad can also be disabled with a one-touch button, eliminating accidental cursor movement with palms and wrists when using an external mouse.

Cool to the Touch

The Acer Timeline notebook series includes Acer’s ComfyTouch technology, which uses an innovative Laminar Wall Jet Engine design to air-cool the processor and notebook case. Even when running for a full day the notebook remains cool in your hands or on your lap.

Easy Backup for Peace of Mind

The Timeline family of notebooks also includes a backup button that lets you easily select and protect your irreplaceable digital files through regular scheduled backups or on an as-needed basis. Data can be backed up to an external hard drive, flash card, thumb drive or to a secure hidden partition on their PC.

Extended Battery Life via Low Power Components and Acer’s PowerSmart Features

While most notebooks with long battery life use higher cell batteries which protrude from the back of the notebook, Acer combined numerous low power components with a standard high-capacity 6-cell battery, allowing them to keep the design as small as possible.

In addition, a conveniently located PowerSmart button located above the keyboard allows you to easily extend battery life. A simple press of the button activates the advanced power savings settings, traditionally a tedious procedure accessed through numerous software-based steps. This one-button approach simplifies the process.

Lastly, an Acer PowerSmart adapter senses when the notebook is unplugged, and stops sending needless energy. It also stops pulling power from the wall outlet when the adapter is full. The PowerSmart adapter saves 1752 watts of energy a year–equivalent to lighting a 15-watt (65W equivalent) light bulb for 116 days.

So far this is the best notebook by Acer. The 8 hour battery life attracted me. It sure does last long. The design is sleek and nice. It is light and thin. I recommend that anyone who plans to purchase to opt for the fastest processor. Only thing I regret is that I purchased mine before the release of Windows 7. Mine has Vista but still is an awesome machine.

Bought this laptop about 4 months ago, at first it worked like a charm; quiet and all. Now, the cooling system makes so much noise, i feel like it’s going to explode. i know the cooling system improves the battery life, but why does it have to kill my buzz when i’m using it. my colleagues constantly laugh at the noise it makes, mostly cause i kinda got the laptop for a hell of a deal(i bragged a lot). I’ve been trying to get acer to finish a 3 week conversation I’ve been having with them; literally. they said no one else has complained about this problem, so they are looking into it.

This is absolutely the worst computer I’ve ever owned. I purchased this computer in September and in less than a week it was freezing up and crashing. At this point I was browsing my email and not too much more. I have had lengthy conversations with many people in India who are like robots and only have the one answer they are given on a script sheet and not too much more. I also had to go out and buy an external hard drive to perform a system restore that will wipe out your hard drive. I bought the computer after reading several reviews that raved about customer service and how Acer is the old Gateway and the cust. svc is excellent. On top of the svc people not knowing how to do much of anything you have to go thru the same procedures every time before you get to a new procedure (that doesn’t work). It’s now November and after fighting with tech support, level 1, 2 and 3 (level 2 and 3 are in America and actually level 3 was the rudest of all people I’ve dealt with) I have to pay for the shipping to Texas. They will have my computer for 7-10 business days on top of the 3-5 shipping each way. I am now looking at a minimum of 13 business days without my computer which is forever in the business world! So, in sum, I bought the Acer thinking it was the latest and greatest and I’ve had to spend additional $ because the computer didn’t work out of the box for an external, spent hours on the phone with tech support going in circles and now have to spend my money to send it to Texas for them to fix where they swear up and down it will be perfect when I get it back. (because why should it have been perfect out of the box brand new!)

    BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY ACER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When i opened the box i was like ‘WOW GREAT PC”, after a few minutes i said “SH….T”, the computer came with a dead pixel (a yellow line from the top to the bottom). It gave me problems when i attempted to make my back up D VD’s, it didn’t let me do them, every time i tried to do it it didn’t allowed me to start. It also got stuck running 3 programs at a time, computer keep’s getting frozen!

ADVICE: don’t purchase this computer, it will give problems no matter what!

I’m not a techie so I wont write a technical review. From a purely layperson perscpective this is goes down as one of my most regrettable purchases, right up there with the Ford Fiesta.

I only wish I would have returned it but Best Buy gives you a measly 14 days for a refund and since it takes about that long for a non-techie to figure out that it is the pc and not you – well I’m stuck with this piece of crap.

I cant tell you how many times I’ve gotten the blue screen of death, it started almost immediately and crashes all the time. It happens so often that it doesnt scare me anymore. Its got issues with the sticky keys, the right/ left clicking, and now the left clicker completely broke. I turned it on today and the left click key is just kinda stuck in “clicked” mode. I certainly didnt mash it last night when i turned it off so what happened? Evil left-clicker gremlins attacked it in the night?

I have never had so many problems, continuously, with any other laptop – I got my 1st Mac notebook in 1992 – I’ve had at least 5 since then, plus the ones I’ve used at work. I will never buy an acer again, and unless you can work on it yourself, I would suggest you go with HP, Dell, or one of the other standards. they may not be perfect but at least they werent as bad as this!
